What is the most inspiring part of your career?
The way each person’s path of health and well-being is unique. I’m interested in how others view and navigate the world around them.
Why did you choose to specialize/work in mental health?
I was drawn to work in mental health as an extension of that interest. Sometimes the ways in which we view and navigate the world become less effective, even destructive. As a therapist I work with people to reframe their thinking and develop new ways of coping with life events.
What are your interests outside of work?
Writing, and I like to spend a lot of time outdoors—running, hiking, gardening.
What’s the last book you read?
The Ministry of Utmost Happiness by Arundhati Roy. It’s the second time I’ve read it. It’s one of those novels that has so many stories within it, you discover another layer of meaning when you reread it. A similar process happens in therapy—when you tell your story to a new set of ears, one question or observation from that person can change your perspective.
